Welcome to Castillo de Coral!
The following are some guidelines that will provide you with information for a stress-free stay at the house and help us maintain our rental property in perfect condition for future renters. Feel at home and enjoy all the amenities in the house.
· Please report any damaged items immediately. There is one beach towel supplied per guest, there is a $20 fee for any missing towels.
· The phone number of the house is (506) 2438-0980. The number is for local calls only. However, your friends and family call the house. (From the US/CAN dial, 011 506, then the number). Long distance calls can be made using callings cards which can be purchased at the airport, local supermarket and drug stores.
· Garbage is to go out early on Friday as garbage pickup is early on Friday morning. We are in the tropics with lots of hungry animals so please make sure it goes out in the morning and you place it out at the end of the driveway into the metal bin.
· Smoking is not permitted inside the house. If you must smoke, we ask that you do so in the patios.
· Please keep the house locked and set the ADT alarm system when you are out in order to protect your belongings, as well as ours. There is a $25 fee for each lost key.
· Set the ADT alarm system every night when going to bed, simply press the house symbol button until you hear a beep.
· There is a safe in the closet of all bedrooms.
· Keep in mind that you are in a country that prides itself on conservation and maintaining earth friendly environmental policies. Please do not keep air conditioners running all day in the bedrooms and keep lights off when you are not occupying the room. The AC units are very efficient and require only about 15-20 minutes to cool a room down, we recommend using it at 24C. Also, please you make sure to keep the doors and windows to the bedrooms closed while using the air conditioners.
· When using the washer and dryer, please shake off all excess sand before using machine. Wash only full loads and do not put power detergent directly onto the cloths, it will stain them blue or the color of the powered detergent you are using. Please use the detergent dispenser for either power or liquid inside the washing machine. Please clean the dryer lint after very use.
· In the laundry room closet there is a cream-colored canopy that you can use if you like some shade on the 2nd floor. Start on the 3rd floor and connect 1 half onto the clips on the 3rd floor balcony railing and lower to connect the bottom half onto the clips on the 2nd floor balcony railing.
· Please do not use metal utensils on stainless steel dishes, pots & pans!
· DO NOT RUN THE JACUZZI TUB until you fill water past the jets!
· Please use drink coasters for all drink ware. Condensation from glasses hurt our coffee and dining room tables.
· To prevent ants, please use Ziplock bags supplied and storage bins/ boxes supplied in kitchen closet for any opened food or keep food in refrigerator. Any food left out will most likely attract ants.
· For your comfort, we always recommend closing up the house prior to sunset to minimize any bugs entering the house
· Please use caution during the green season, it’s common for driftwood on the beach and in the ocean.
· You can get a good idea of the currents in the water when you enter, if the sea is rough, try to keep your feet on the bottom. If you get caught in a riptide, stay calm! Swim sideways along the beach until you get out of it.
· When returning from the beach, please shower outside to remove sand before entering the house and swimming in the pool. Sand fills the traps in the showers and prevents water from draining.
· Please do not use glass bottles or other glass-ware in or around the pool area. Plastic cups and dishware are at your disposal. We can’t stress how important it is to be careful with your children around the pool. Don’t let them out of your site! Also, no diving in the pool!
· Please do not flush ANYTHING (including toilet paper) down the toilets. Small garbage cans with plenty of garbage can liners are available so that they can be emptied frequently. We know this sounds a bit odd, but it is really not difficult and your vacation would be truly spoiled by a sewage backup by the septic system!
· We are surrounded by “nature”. It is not uncommon to see critters that crawl, creep and fly outside and/or inside the house. As you are in a tropical environment, you should bring mosquito repellent containing DEET and plenty of high-quality sunscreen.
· The drawer next to the 2nd floor fridge, has some appliance user manuals – dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, coffee maker.
· Please be considerate with the neighbors. Loud parties/music past 11:00 PM is prohibited.
· Please be advised owner/management is not responsible for your personal items. Thievery is not as infrequent as we will like in Costa Rica, we recommend you be aware of your personal items whether out to dinner or on the beach.
We care about your safety and ask you to PLEASE remember to watch for the rip tides at Playa Junquillal and the surrounding beaches. We also remind you not to leave anything valuable in the car or unattended on the beach, even if you think it is safe and in view.
Costa Rica is a beautiful country with beautiful people and we hope that you enjoy all that it has to offer. We hope that your time here is a pleasurable and a very memorable one!
If you have any questions, regarding the house, house rules, or the area please ask.
We are here for you, at your service.
Warmest Regards,
Kelly Crean, Owner
Georgina Solorzano, Property Manager

Don’t make yourself an Easy Target for Thieves while on Vacation
Costa Rica is a popular tourist destination, and like most tourist destinations, most crimes involve petty theft. Usually this are crimes of opportunity that involves theft of valuables that are easily accessible. Be vigilant and there won’t be any problems.
1. AT THE HOUSE A) LOCK ALL DOORS B) TURN ON The ALARM C) PUT ALL Valuables in SAFES and locked closets
· Make sure you LOCK ALL exterior DOORS when you Leave the house and when you go to BED. There are locks on all the doors and sliding doors leading to both the exterior decks. Make sure they are ALL locked before bed and when you leave the house. Also remember to Lock the Front door (deadbolt too).
· Turn the house ALARM system on when you leave the house and at night when you go to bed.
· There are SAFES in ALL the bedroom closets. There are also locks on each bedroom’s closet. Use safes to keep passports, wallets, money and electronics safe. Don’t leave electronics or valuables in any unlocked areas in the house when you leave the house or when you are sleeping. We recommend locking them in your bedroom closet for larger items of value and small items of value in the safes. All safes use personal codes.
2. AT THE BEACH
DON’T Leave your Valuables Unattended while at the BEACH.
3. IN THE CAR
LOCK all CAR DOORS and WINDOWS when you leave the CAR.
Take your valuables with you. Do not leave valuables visible from windows in car. We recommend locking them in the trunk and keeping them out of view.
PERSONAL SAFETY
· Don’t go in the pool if there’s lightning.
· Don’t go for a walk on the beach if you see a storm coming, lightning can happen, and you don’t want to be out there if it does.
· Avoid the ocean if it’s been heavily raining, looks murky and or see debris in the water.
We recommend wearing water shoes or flip flops as the dark sand can get really hot.
Currency exchange: Costa Rica readily accepts US$. There is NO need to exchange dollars at the airport, they will give you a really low exchange and is absolutely unnecessary. In every store and place, even street vendors, will receive your dollars and will give you change in colones according to exchange daily. Most stores normally are all pretty fair and accurate. It is better to have lower denominations $20, $10, $5. Ensure USD bills remain in unfolded, crisp condition. Locals and banks will be hesitant to accept otherwise.
Banking: You can find them on your way in Santa Cruz, or in Tamarindo, inside Auto-Mercado there is a ATM in case you want to use a banking machine.
Water: It is safe to drink water from the faucet.
Know the seasons:
Groceries can be delivered to your house and be there for your arrival.
To make an order, please email us a detailed list with quantities at least 3 days before delivery. There is a small fee of $35 for preparation and delivery.
We want to assure you that the tap water in Costa Rica is generally considered safe to drink. However, we do live in an area that can be affected by drought, so we kindly ask that you use water mindfully during your stay.
We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle to help reduce waste and conserve water. If you prefer to use bottled water, we recommend purchasing larger bottles to reduce plastic waste.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us conserve water and protect the environment.
